In the middle of the burned wood, half-buried in the ashes, was a black pebble that shone as bright as a glittering diamond. Bliss knew what it was immediately. The Heart of Stone—it was a remnant of the Black Fire of Hell.

Bliss clicked off her flashlight with some satisfaction. They were right. The hounds had been here. #WolfPactSneaks

He could smell the hounds now. They’d be on them in an instant, coming from all directions, ducking through shadows and hiding in trees, making their way toward the house, bringing fire and ash. #WolfPactSneaks

Hey guys, it’s Mel here. I’ve seen a few comments about feeling disappointed that Wolf Pact is only an e-book and I wanted to tell you a little bit about why it’s being published that way.

Basically, due to creative block & some personal issues, I missed many, many hardcover deadlines. In the middle of missing yet another one, my publisher told me I could either scrap the series entirely, or have

the book publish NEXT year (which would mean 2013), or release it as an e-book.

I thought making my readers wait yet another year for a book that’s been announced since 2008 was sort of bad. I didn’t want you guys to wait even longer than you had been.

Also, the stuff that happens in Wolf Pact affects Gates of Paradise, which was already scheduled for January 2013. Wolf Pact could not publish AFTER Gates, it would not make sense with the story I was writing/had written. And I didn’t want to push back Gates either. It’s all a house of cards once you miss one deadline.

So I chose to publish it as an e-book so you wouldn’t have to wait, and so it wouldn’t affect Gates’ publication date.

I know it’s not the best scenario, believe me, I wish I had made those deadlines man. I really do. But life happens, and writers are not machines. I tried–I’ve been working on Wolf Pact for years and it never gelled until the end of last year.

The good news is that Wolf Pact IS AWESOME!!

And for those who don’t have e-readers, you can read Kindle books on your computer. (I’m not sure about Nook, but downloading the Kindle-for-PC is easy and free.) Isn’t that cool? I figure you all have computers who don’t have e-books and you will be able to still get the story that way.

I love printed books. I love hardcovers. Don’t get me wrong. I wish I had been able to release Wolf Pact as a hardcover.

But in the end, it’s not about the platform, it’s that you get to read the story, right?

Thanks for all the Blue Bloods love. I hope you all enjoy Wolf Pact! (BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME!!)

xoxo
